I did not make chapatis for a living,

I made them to live with the Mountain. I did not get paid for making chapatis. I got food and roof. It was a hippie thing, it was not a survival strategy. Please read the novel, A Grasshopper's Pilgrimage, to get it.

I am so happy that finally I have a controversy to rant about.

This article appeared in Hindustan Times Cafe, April 23rd, a few days after the mumbai launch. Click on image to read.

Banno,

Yes, all we need is food and roof to live, but is that living?

There is subtle difference in 'doing something for a living' and 'doing it to be able to live somewhere specific.'

The latter is a passion, former is a survival. We don't need passion to survive. etc etc.

Smita,

I got hold of this interview thanks to you. I was already in Banglore by the time it appeared, and even if I was in mumbai, a newspaper is the last thing I notice.
